CLAN MACTAVISH
Bjorn hiet

In the south of Vesterland lies the clan of the bear.
The MacTavish clan's territory is lush and full of wildlife. Within towering pine trees, the MacTavish clan’s fortress towers. Its stone brick walls are covered in moss and rich history. The air within the forest is cool and damp, heavy with the scent of pine and earth. Birdsong and howls fill its scenery, bordering on the territory of the banished wolf clan.
The MacTavish have been residing in their fortress, ‘’Bjorn hiet’’, for over 700 years and the fortress has been expanded, reinforced and adapted over generations to accommodate the growing clan.
The Mactavish clan has long held a deep belief in the god of the bear, whom they revere as a powerful and protective force. They sometimes refer to this deity as ‘’Bear of Mactavish’’ or ‘’Bear of protection’’. The clan believes that the bear is the embodiment of strength, courage and power. The god of the bear is believed to watch over the clan, granting them blessings and divine protection over enemies in battle.

The bear is a symbol of protection, pride and nurturing. Wearing a bear pelt is seen as being protected, it is seen as a sin to hunt a bear and all pelts are harvested from deceased bears.
CLAN NOTTHUNDR
ulf skog

At the borders of the clan of the bear lies the forest hosting the banished clan of the wolf.
The banished clan of the wolf, once known as the Notthundr clan before their dark fall, lies bordering the MacTavish clan's territory. This border region is marked by a dense, tangled forest filled with a sense of gloom and dread, as if the very air is heavy with the weight of the wolves' grim history.
For generations, the Notthundr clan had practiced a twisted, cultish form of worship dedicated to the goddess of wolves, Morrighan. In a misguided attempt to get the goddess's favor and gain power from their patron deity, the notthundr clan had resorted to the most unholy of sacrifices - the ritualistic murder and offering of their own children to the wolves. This dark practice continued in secret for years until the clan's true nature was finally revealed and they were rightfully cast out and banished by the other clans.
Now, the once-great notthundr clan consists of only one remaining member - Fenrir Notthundr, a man as wild and fierce as the beasts. Raised solely by the pack of wolves that filled the forest of his clan's twisted sacrifices, Fenrir has become a creature of the forest.

For the banished Notthundr clan, the wolf was not merely an animal but a divine entity. They saw the wolf as the earthly manifestation of their goddess, Morrighan.
CLAN fugldottir
orne Nestet

In the warm south of Vesterland lies the clan of the eagle.
The Clan of the Eagle inhabits a region of Vesterland that enjoys a milder, warmer climate due to its coastal location and the warm ocean winds. Their territory is a picturesque blend of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and rolling emerald hills that stretch out towards the vast, shimmering sea.
The clan's fortress, called Nesthold, is perched atop the highest and most inaccessible of the coastal cliffs, offering a breathtaking view of the ocean. They border with the clan of the Sea serpent and often wed.
The borders between the Fugl-dottir and havormin clan are often blurry, with intermarriage being quite common. This cultural exchange has led to a unique fusion of beliefs and traditions. Fugldottir clan members may be named after birds alongside the havormin serpent motif, and vice versa.

The Fugldottir clan holds a deep belief in the god of birds, Uinn, the Sky Father and Lord of the Heavens. They see Uinn as the embodiment of freedom, clarity of vision, and the soaring spirit of life.
CLAN havormin
Havet grimland

Toward the cold oceans lies the boating clan of the Sea serpent.
The Clan of the Sea Serpent resides in a rugged, coastal are known as Havet grimland, where the icy sea winds carve through the air and frost clings to the craggy cliffs for much of the year. Dotted along the shore are the skeletal remains of ships dashed upon the rocks, a grim testament to the sea's unforgiving nature.
The Havormin clan has long been a seafaring people, their hearts and livelihood inextricably tied to the volatile ocean. They are expert fishermen and sailors, with a deep, almost primal connection to the sea. The clan's culture and identity are so deeply intertwined with the god of the sea, whom they call Njord, the Sea Father and Lord of the Shallows.
The Havormin clan's fortress, Serpent's Lair, is a labyrinthine complex of tunnels and chambers carved deep into a massive, serpent-shaped rock formation that looms over the tempestuous sea. The fortress is designed to withstand the relentless battering of storms and the corrosive effects of sea spray.

At the heart of the Havormin clan's beliefs lies an ancient, eldritch sea serpent deity called njord, the World Serpent and guardian of the clan's sacred sea. They see njord as the embodiment of the untamed power of the ocean, as well as the source of their own strength.
Clan Hjorth
hjort hjemmet

The clan of the elk are travelers and can be found all over Vesterland.
The Clan of the Elk, known as Hjorth, are a wandering, nomadic people who traverse the length and breadth of Vesterland. While they maintain a great fortress called Oakhaven in the northern reaches, near the MacTavish clan's border, the Hjorth clan are not bound by geographical constraints. Their people can be found in the forests, the hills, and even in the towns and villages of Vesterland, practicing their trades and sharing their unique cultural heritage.
The Hjorth clan's belief system is deeply rooted in the natural world, with a profound reverence for the cyclical rhythms of the seasons, the changing of the leaves, and the migration of the beasts. At the heart of their faith lies the sacred bond between the Elk God, a mighty stag named Eldhjartnir, and the Fawn Goddess, a gentle doe called Dofras. They are seen as the eternal husband and wife, the primordial parents of all elkin folk.
The Clan of the Elk, or Hjorth clan, holds a unique and influential position in the cultural landscape of Vesterland due to their introduction of the concept of marriage as it is understood by most clans today. Long before the other clans adopted this practice, the Hjorth clan had already established a system of monogamous unions.

This monogamous tradition was tied to their faith in Eldhjartnir and Dofras. The divine couple is said to be eternally devoted to one another, the Hjorth clan believed that they should strive for the same level of dedication and loyalty in their earthly relationships.

Bear of Mactavish
The god of the bear

The bear is a symbol of protection, pride and nurturing.
The God of the Bear, Ursus MacTavish, is a unique divine entity among the pantheon of Vesterland deities, for the position is not held by a single immortal being, but rather a mortal man who is chosen and imbued with godly power for a time. This sacred role rotates among the most noble, strong, and worthy men of the MacTavish clan, with a new Bear God being selected every generation or so when the old one grows weary, falls in battle, or completes his divine service.
The chosen man must embody the ideal qualities of a MacTavish warrior and leader - unparalleled strength, courage, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the protection and well-being of the clan. Once selected, he undergoes a secret and sacred ritual in the depths of the ancient woods, where he is said to be visited by the spirit of the Bear God in his dreams and granted a portion of its power.

Morrighan of wolves
The goddess of wolves

Morrighan is the eternal embodiment of the wild and often dark nature of the wolf.
The Goddess of the Wolf is Morrigan, a dark and terrible deity whose malevolent influence has long haunted the borders of Vesterland. Unlike the cyclical nature of the Bear God, Morrigan is a singular, eternal entity whose malevolent presence has cast a shadow over the land for centuries. She is a goddess of chaos, destruction, and the primal, untamed forces of nature.
The Notthundr clan, before their banishment, believed that the only way to appease and curry favor with Morrigan was to make the ultimate sacrifice - the lives of their own children. They were convinced that the spilling of innocent blood, particularly the blood of the clan's heirs, would awaken the goddess's wrath and fury, channeling it to defend and protect the clan itself.

Uinn of the skies
The god of birds

The fugldottirs see Uinn as the embodiment of freedom, independence, and the boundless spirit of the skies.
Uinn has the power to transform himself into birds, soaring through the skies and observing the world below. This ability is seen as a symbol of the divine right to freedom, mobility, and the power to rise above the mundane concerns of mortals. Clan members believe that upon death, the pure of heart will join Uinn on his eternal flight, soaring the skies as a bird in the afterlife.
Uinn is believed to grant his followers visions, inspiration, and knowledge through dreams, omens, and the whispers of the wind.
The God of Birds watches over the Fugldottir clan, shielding them from harm and guiding them on the right path through the trials and tribulations of life.

Njord of the sea
The god of the seas

The Havormin clan believes that Njord blesses them with bountiful harvests from the sea, filling their nets with the finest catches and treasures.
Njord, the God of the Sea, is an ancient and powerful deity who has long held dominion over the tempestuous waters surrounding Vesterland and the icy depths that lie beneath. He is often depicted as a commanding figure with the lower body of a monstrous, serpentine beast, scales glistening like the most precious pearls, and eyes that churn with the fury of the sea.
The Havormin clan believes that Njord is the source of their strength, their wealth, and their mystical, otherworldly aura. They see him as the guardian and master of the seas, the one who grants them dominion over the waves and the creatures that dwell within.

Eldhjartnir & Dofras of the lands
The gods of nature

Eldhjartnir and Dofras are the God and Goddess of the Elk clan, representing the sacred bond of husband and wife, and the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
They are the primordial parents of the elk folk, and all of creation is said to have sprung from their love and union. The Elk God and Elk Goddess are bound to each other for all eternity, embodying the ideal of the devoted, monogamous partnership that the Hjorth clan holds dear. Their love story is the ideal template for the Hjorth clan's belief in lifelong, committed partnerships.
Eldhjartnir, the Elk God, is often depicted as a majestic, noble stag with an immense rack of antlers that shine like the first light of dawn. His eyes are filled with the wisdom of ages and the boundless love he holds for his eternal mate, Dofras. Eldhjartnir represents strength, virility, and the life-giving power of nature.
Dofras, the Fawn Goddess, is a gentle and beautiful doe, her long hair as soft as the first spring blossoms and her eyes sparkling with the same warmth and compassion. She embodies the nurturing, life-giving force of nature, the tender love and care that sustains all living things.
